The Future Talent Program features internships that last up to 12 weeks and will include one or more projects. The Profiling and Expression department is offering internships that last 10-12 weeks. We have 5 open positions in our department in South San Francisco, CA (Remote option may be available for 1-2 positions).
Students can apply for the opportunity to be involved in:
- Profiling human disease tissue and model systems using single cell-based approaches, gene expression, immunophenotyping, and histopathological methods to support clinical and discovery programs.
- Assisting in translating the mechanistic action of Merck’s novel therapeutics into key biomarker insights.
The internship program will allow candidates to understand what a career in an industry-based research company looks like. We are seeking highly motivated and talented students who will work on specific projects designed to further develop their wet lab and/or computational skillsets.
Required Education & Experience
- Candidates must have completed at least two years of studies toward a bachelor’s degree by June 2023 in Biological Sciences (i.e. immunology, oncology, pathology, computational biology) or a related field of study both at the time of application and while serving in internship. Students enrolled in graduate programs (MS or PhD) are highly encouraged to apply.
- Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to 9-12 weeks beginning in May or June of 2023.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Candidates should demonstrate scientific engagement and have excellent analytical ability. They should also be in very good academic standing.
- Candidates should have demonstrated superior communication and interpersonal skills and must be able to work well in a collaborative team environment.
- Candidates should have interests/experience in ANY of the fields of molecular biology, immunology, oncology, cell biology or bioinformatics.
- Candidates should have these desired skills for wet-lab based projects, include one or more of the following: primary cell/tissue culture, standard molecular biology techniques, genomic technologies, flow cytometry, histopathology, and single cell methodologies.
- Candidates should have these desired skills for computational based projects include one or more of the following: experience with R or Python programming languages, experience with imaging, computer vision, machine learning, and analysis of bulk or single cell datasets.
